Intelligent virtual laboratory and project-oriented learning for teaching mobile robotics

We have combined collaborative didactic techniques, virtual laboratories and intelligent tutors to improve the process of learning mobile robotics. The students learn the basic concepts in mobile robotics, first by experimenting in a virtual laboratory and later by building a small mobile robot for a competition. The course is based on the project-oriented learning (POL) didactic strategy. Throughout the course the students design, build and program a small mobile robot to participate in student competitions. Here we present an evaluation of the virtual lab and of the tutor, and of the course in general. © 2006 TEMPUS Publication.
