abstract
- This work is framed in the context of Challenge-Based Learning and describes how mechatronic engineering students tackle a challenge using product design tools and ChatGPT. The challenge was part of the Project Formulation and Evaluation course and involved developing proposals for an automation system in the food industry. The process began by providing students with the client's needs and training them in design tools such as the House of Quality, functional decomposition, the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and Decision Matrices. Students were then asked to generate proposal solutions for the challenge using both ChatGPT and traditional methods. Preliminary results from this exploratory study indicate that while the design tools initially seemed complex, students found them valuable for addressing future challenges. Integrating these tools with ChatGPT enhanced their problem-solving capabilities, providing a comprehensive approach to tackling real-world problems. © 2024 IEEE.
