abstract
This study examines the perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs of teachers of different generations in Guatemala regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. The main objective was to determine how different generations of educators value and visualize the integration of AI in their teaching practices. To this end, surveys were applied to 176 professors of a higher education institution, and the data collected were analyzed using statistical techniques to identify trends and generational differences. The findings revealed: (a) a consensus and positive attitude towards implementing AI, with notable agreement between Generation X and Millennials; (b) willingness to adopt AI-based tools varied among the respondents; (c) all generations agreed that AI applications can be beneficial during undergraduate and graduate university studies; (d) Generation X and Millennials emphasize the importance of considering the digital divide and ethical aspects, while the Centennial generation shows concern about the quality of constructive feedback. These results have significant implications for educational communities, policymakers, and society, underscoring the need for AI implementation strategies that are inclusive and sensitive to generational and contextual needs. © 2025 IEEE.
