abstract
Return migration is an increasingly contemporary phenomenon within international migratory flows. This study analyzes the determinants of the economic and social reintegration among returned migrants in Mariscala de Juárez, Oaxaca, a Mexican municipality with high migratory intensity. Data were collected through a survey administered to return migrants in this municipality. Using binomial logistic regression models, the study identifies key factors influencing their reintegration into their communities of origin. The findings suggest that factors positively impacting economic reintegration include marital status, educational attainment, English proficiency, and possession of the necessary migration documents to work in the United States. Meanwhile, attributes that increase the likelihood of better social reintegration are associated with the length of time spent abroad. These results highlight the complexities of the reintegration process for return migrants and underscore the evident lack of public policies designed to facilitate their return and reintegration into their communities of origin. © 2025, Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico.
