abstract
- This paper presents an Education 5.0 strategy that integrates Value Stream Mapping and Discrete Event Simulation within a Learning Factory environment to enhance the teaching of Digital Lean Manufacturing principles. By analyzing the case of the FrED Factory, a dedicated learning factory to produce a custom low-cost extrusion system, students were able to simulate production processes, identify sources of waste, and evaluate system performance considering real-world issues. This approach fosters a holistic, digital, and data-driven mindset in engineering students, equipping them with the digital and analytical skills needed to manage modern manufacturing systems in alignment with Industry 5.0 objectives.
