- Span of control, the number of employees and their relationships that can be effectively managed by one individual, has long been a topic of concern among management scholars and professionals. Advances in artificial intelligence have stimulated significant developments in thinking on span of control, particularly in the case of ultimate frontier firms, where, in many cases, there are no employees in the traditional sense.
