  • In December 1955, Franco's Spain achieved its desired membership in the United Nations. Among the many details of the case, greatly stressed Mexico's abstention vote in that Member State, surprising all those who waited at least one vote against. Given this circumstance, and as part of that defiant Cold War, in this article the reasons that led to president Adolfo Ruiz Cortines to take this unexpected turn in its foreign policy with respect to Franco, analyzed citing the upholding the principle of universality.
