© 2016 by AIST.At Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) facilities high harmonic distortion is found at secondary voltage and current measurements; extreme distortion conditions are present at initial bore down and early melting. In highly nonlinear electrical loads such as electric arcs, a power theory for non-sinusoidal voltages and currents is needed for a better study of the power phenomenon. The current and power decomposition proposed by Czarnecki in the Current's Physicals Components (CPC) power theory allows an advanced engineering analysis of the energy transfer from the power transformer to the arcs. Studies with real EAF data show that each one of the current components can be used as performance indicators for arc regulation and power control.
