abstract

  • © 2018 IEEE. Static VAr compensators (SVC) are shunt connected power devices that modify the reactive power at the connection point. These devices are conformed by a source of lagging current like the thyristor controlled reactors and a leading current source such as the fixed capacitors, fixed harmonics filters and thyristor switched capacitors. Due to the increasing regulations over the reactive power, the industrial SVC have acquire the attention as a cost effective way to fulfill these regulations. In this paper we focus on the implementation and control of a thyristor controlled reactor working under sinusoidal and balanced conditions. The control algorithm of the industrial SVC is done following a time based approach and the stability proof is performed with the polynomial lyapunov equation. Finally, an implementation in a low voltage testbench is done.
