All rights reserved. The lemon peel, despite coming from a fruit that we use daily, is finally discarded although it contains various vitamins and minerals that provide essential elements for different chemical processes, including the purification of water with metals, in addition to providing benefits to the environment when used. The main objective of this investigation was to carry out tests that help us to corroborate the hypothesis that the lemon can be an efficient material in the decontamination of water with mercury, identifying the components that contain the adequate properties to carry out this process. Once the preliminary tests that corroborated the efficiency of the lemon for this experiment were carried out, we proceeded to dehydrate the husk and sift it to 150 microns, and then use them to filter the contaminated water with known concentrations of mercury and other metals. Likewise, the percentage concentration of these metals in the water was revised again to know the effectiveness of the filtration process by the usage of dehydrated lemon peel
