Therapeutic performance of temozolomide-loaded nanomaterials: A state-of-the-art Academic Article in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • Nowadays, cancers are one of the major threats to human health and scientists are trying to find the best approaches to treat them more efficiently. In this regard, loading diverse anti-cancer drugs within different nanoparticles to develop suitable drug delivery systems can offer an applicable solution for increasing therapeutic efficacy and prolonging drug release along with lowering side effects and dose consumption. Further, nanocarriers can deliver drugs to certain tissues in a controlled manner and minimize the use of excipients (solubilizers). In the current study, the anti-cancer drug Temozolomide, loaded in different nanoparticles including polymeric, inorganic, lipid-based and carbon-based, either alone or its co-delivery with other drugs has been reviewed. Besides, its effect on cancer therapies, especially brain cancer has been investigated. The use of nanocarriers for the targeted delivery of temozolomide appears to be a potent strategy to optimize the therapy of this type of cancer.
