abstract

  • Assessment of higher education competencies is a difficult task. A statistically driven evaluation requires that a person performing a sample of tasks be paired with a set of randomly selected experts evaluating each task. The interest of higher education institutions is to measure the impact of their different education strategies on students' competencies and abilities, with the goal of providing their students with a maximum level of acquired skills. An individualized measurement of the impact of innovative educational strategies on the competencies developed during higher education presents many challenges. If we consider the number of participating students, the number of tasks involved, and the number of evaluators required to avoid bias, we can see that this goal quickly becomes difficult to achieve. The intention of this study is to propose different statistical and qualitative instruments to evaluate the impact of information and communications technology (ICT) on the development of students' competencies in remote education systems. We focus on the use of virtual reality (VR) technology as a tool for improving current strategies that impact the skill development process. Our contribution in this work seeks to reduce the current gap between the theoretical and practical understanding of the competency assessment process. We pay special attention to the evaluation methods and technological strategies for educational innovation that lead to the improvement of students' abilities. © 2023 Owner/Author.
