abstract

  • An error in a statistical model that treated each day as an independent datapoint and involving several descriptive analyses resulted in incorrect P-values, as considered in our recent Letter to the Editor (1). Correct P-values using linear regression are as follows: ¿ Energy intake on the low-carbohydrate diet: Figure 1A and associated text, P = 0.02.¿ Energy intake on the low-fat diet: Figure 1B and associated text, P = 0.007.¿ Change in body fat on the low-carbohydrate diet: Figure 2A and associated text, P = 0.04.¿ ß-hydroxybutyrate: Figure 3A and associated text (with elimination of 1 outlier, 3x above the upper limit of the interquartile range), P = 0.04.¿ Respiratory quotient: Figure 3B and associated text, P = 0.09.¿ For the unbiased but underpowered comparisons in the first treatment period showing numerical advantages for the low-carbohydrate diet, energy intake in week 2 without and with baseline BMI adjustment: P = 0.11 and 0.10, respectively.¿ On page 5, column 2, the second sentence should read: ¿An unbiased but underpowered test of energy intake limited to week 2 of the first diet period (i.e., after 1 week of metabolic adaptation), showed a numerically large although statistically non-significant advantage for the LCD (521 kcal/d less energy intake).¿This error does not affect our calculation of the carry-over effect or the main conclusions of our paper. We apologize for any inconvenience. © 2024 The Author(s)
