abstract
In this article, we present an innovative approach for monitoring multi-head weighing processes using CUSUM Control Charts with guaranteed performance. Multi-head weighers, regulated by the European directive 76/211/EC, are essential for providing precise weights at high packing speeds in the food packaging industry. These machines ensure that the actual content of the packaging meets legal specifications, protecting the consumer and allowing rigorous control by companies. The motivation for using the CUSUM Control Chart lies in its ability to quickly detect and correct deviations in product weight, ensuring precise and efficient dosing. Through a computerized algorithm, multi-head weighers select combinations of hoppers that approximate the desired target weight, optimizing the weighing process. Based on the research conducted by Madrid-Alvarez et al. [1], this article applies the proposed techniques to simulated weighing data using asymmetric distributions such as gamma. The results demonstrate that CUSUM Control Charts are more effective at detecting deviations in processes with non-normal data. The implementation of this method has shown significant improvements in monitoring accuracy and speed, complying with legal standards and reducing costs and downtime. This approach is particularly beneficial in environments where rigorous and continuous control is required, guaranteeing operational quality and efficiency. © CISCI - Simposium Iberoamericano en Educacion, Cibernetica e Informatica 2024.
