Research is a complex task that requires relevance to groups that promote projects, generate academic spaces for reflection and knowledge, and changes in positioning with the aim of nurturing and enriching education and society. To this end, mobility and the creation of academic-scientific networks is a key factor in responding to current demands. Networking, as a social structure, fosters collaboration, participation, and innovation. This chapter takes a theoretical approach to the concept of networking and describes the implementation of the OpenResearchLab project, which focuses on the exchange of ideas, collaborative work between professionals and institutions, the quality of teaching and the use of innovative technologies. The results show that, on the one hand, under the achievement of common objectives, creativity, innovation, joint learning, and knowledge generation, among others, are key elements for collaborative work, resulting in the design and implementation of an effective project in its proposed objectives. And, on the other hand, the meta-competence of complex reasoning is having an increasing impact on higher education as academic-research networking is established, which supports the promotion of this competence and enables efficient interactions for this purpose. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, María Soledad Ramírez-Montoya, Miguel A.
