abstract
- This chapter summarizes a brief description of the classification of polymeric materials according to Matweb. It presents the concept of molecular weight and the different definitions according to the different moments of the molecular weight distribution. The chapter discusses the effect of the molecular weight on polymer states. It deals about polymer states and focuses mostly on thermal, electrical, tribological, and mechanical properties to describe these states. These states are explained based on the understanding of the construction of polymer molecules from the nanoscale, with their constituent monomers, to the mesoscale, with the formation of crystalline-amorphous structures, where molecules are gathered according to their physical and chemical properties and molecular conformations. The methodology described in the chapter may also help to design and investigate various polymers for different applications.
