The genus Sitophilus is a genus belonging to the family Curculionoidea, which is famous as well as of great interest for study because a great variety of its species are pests commonly present on foodstuffs all over the world. Among all these species, Sitophilus oryzae is one of the most economically relevant, as it is one of the most destructive pests of stored cereals. It is particularly dangerous for rice cultivation, as it can attack crops before harvest and seeds during storage, thus endangering food security. For this reason, this book chapter aims to show in a synthesised, clear and precise way the relevant information on this species to help researchers and decision-makers to better understand this pest and thus be able to apply the appropriate control mechanisms. Given the importance of rice grain in the field of food safety, it is essential to focus on the correct handling of the grain to avoid attack by Sitophilus oryzae and to have a general understanding of control methods. © 2024 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
