abstract
- This paper outlines the design and implementation of a challenge-based learning engineering course with a Humanistic Outlook. This course not only instills social consciousness among students but also improves the quality of life in certain communities. In engineering education, various efforts have been made to promote social awareness and service among students through their courses. However, according to the literature, some of these efforts have been ineffective in truly cultivating this awareness. The results of implementing this course show that effectiveness relies on two key factors. First is the collaboration with an Educational Partner who, alongside professors, helps define real-world contextual cases and follows up on students¿ proposed solutions. Second is the inclusion of a Flexible Digital Model to teach and reinforce topics related to professional ethics, aimed at fostering the social consciousness needed for future engineers. Additionally, facilitating opportunities for students to engage directly with communities is essential for sensitizing them to community situations and needs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
