This study compares media attention to migrant caravans in 2018 and late 2023. In 2019, as part of journalistic activism, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) published a series of measures to prevent victimization and the use of stereotypes and give migrants more voice. This research examines 496 news articles through content analysis to gain deeper insights. The research methods are qualitative and quantitative, the study focuses on how three Mexican digital newspapers¿El Universal, La Jornada, and Reforma¿addressed the issue of migration. The IOM established the following guidelines, which were used as categories of analysis to frame information: the use of relevant words, respect for the dignity of migrants, opposition to hate speech, promoting public debate, direct dialogue with migrants, ensuring balanced coverage, and adopting a comprehensive and international approach. Following these indications promotes the listening and understanding of the migrant experience from their own protagonists and reinforces the debate and visibility in the digital sphere. The general results show that there were changes in language from one period to another, in addition to the inclusion of more voices of migrants in the text. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
