3D Modeling: Top-Down Strategy to Create Assemblies of Rigid Bodies in a Cloud CAD Software Application Chapter in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • Currently, there are various CAD software applications for 3D modeling designed to meet diverse needs, enabling the creation of animations or simulations of component movements. Others perform finite element analysis of products, and still others prepare their models to facilitate the manufacturing of parts, among other tasks. However, as an initial phase, all require the part or product¿s geometry to be manipulated. For this, a bottom-up modeling strategy is typically employed, which involves creating each part independently and subsequently assembling them. This work explores the top-down modeling strategy and its advantages in a cloud CAD software application. It also evaluates its scope through a case study. Among the results, it was found that the CAD software application used has advantages over other computational modeling tools, as the geometries of its components can be created with a single sketch for each principal plane. Additionally, it is a software application that does not rely on historical data, instead offering history-free modeling. Another advantage is that it is cloud-based, allowing users to access their files from anywhere, regardless of the computer they are using.
