Suspension Actuators for a Novel Low-Voltage Reconfigurable Battery Electric Vehicle Chapter in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • In the context of vehicle electrification, different subsystems are being replaced by their electrical counterparts for enhanced efficiency, durability, and controllability. Particularly, suspension systems are installing electromagnetic actuators to both control vehicle vertical dynamics and recover part of the kinetic energy introduced by road irregularities. Within the framework of the Spoke 2 of MOST¿Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile, a novel low-voltage vehicle concept deploys four electromagnetic dampers at its corners. By simulating the vehicle running a WLTC Class 3b over rough road according to ISO 8608 standard, the regenerative potentialities of those suspensions are studied. Particular benefits arise in urban driving scenarios, where rougher road profiles are travelled, and deploying more efficient electro-mechanical actuators.
