Luminescence-based biorecognition has been proven to be 100¿1000 times more sensitive than colorimetric methods. Since luminescent sensing strategies are mainly beneficial for the detection of small-sized molecules and processing parameters and have been integrated into microfluidic platforms of various shapes, forms, and functions. In this chapter, microfluidic devices such as lab-on-chip devices (LOC), and alternative techniques will be presented with their recent examples. This chapter provides a thorough review on the latest advancements in bio-microelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS) that operate based on the principle of luminescence detection. A detailed comparison between the fabrication and operation of these devices along with the advantages and disadvantages of each technique are also included in this chapter.
