- This chapter generates a proposal for a novel Green Technology Index. This index aims to identify if technological innovation systems behave well regarding the seven functions of those systems proposed in the literature, proposing a measure in which not only the development of green technologies is measured but a first approximation to a holistic view of what will be a well-functioning green technology innovation system. The proposed measure is essential given that global warming is a constant issue in the twenty-first century, and researchers believe that one meaningful way to solve this issue is by creating new green technologies that help relieve the pace of global warming. In addition, the proposed measure allows policymakers to enhance and redirect efforts to contribute to creating policies to help in what is, perhaps, the biggest challenge in our time. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
