Lilian Salazar is originally from Mexico City. She holds a degree in Architecture from Tecnológico de Monterrey and a Master¿s in Architecture from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
A specialist in accessibility for people with disabilities, she is the founder and coordinator of the Accessible Infrastructure Evaluation Center, ¿ArquiTEC, Entorno Accesible¿ since 2006. Through this program, nearly 300 properties from public and private organizations have been evaluated, with participation from architecture students completing their social service and receiving training in universal design.
She is an Honorary Associate of Libre Acceso, A.C., an association dedicated to promoting the rights of people with disabilities. She has served on the Accessibility in Transportation Committee of the Transportation Research Board, part of the National Research Council, a private institution jointly administered by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine.
She has collaborated with government agencies in the development of accessibility regulations and presented at national and international conferences. She is co-author of a methodology for evaluating architectural and urban accessibility and has published the book ¿Accesibilidad Arquitectónica, su aplicación al diseño de espacios¿. She also serves on the Editorial Board of ARTEDISEÑO magazine of UNAM¿s Faculty of Arts and Design.
Since 1997, she has worked full-time at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus, where she was the founding Director of the Architecture program (1997¿2005) and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture. At the same institution, she coordinates the Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion for People with Disabilities and serves as a representative in the National Network of Higher Education for Inclusion (RENADESI), part of the Mexican Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES). She has participated as a mentor in the Asia Pacific Women in Leadership Mentoring Program (2023¿2024 edition).
She was awarded the National Design Award ¿ Diseña México¿UNESCO 2021 for Academic Career in Design Education, in recognition of her teaching on inclusion and universal design, and the National Inspiring Teacher Award 2025, the highest honor granted by Tecnológico de Monterrey to its faculty.
