Salazar-Díaz, Lilian

Overview

Lilian Salazar has a bachelor's in architecture from Monterrey Tech and a Master in Architecture from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). A specialist in accessibility for people with disabilities, she is the founder and coordinator of the Accessible Infrastructure Evaluation Center, "ArquiTEC, Accessible Environment", where since 2006, nearly 300 facilities of public and private organizations have been evaluated, such as Terminal 1 and 2 of the Mexico City International Airport, lines 2 and 4 of the Metrobús, the National Human Rights Commission, etc. In ArquiTEC, students of the architecture career participate, performing their social service and are training in the subject of universal design. She is an Honorary Associate of Libre Acceso, A.C., an association dedicated to promoting the rights of people with disabilities. She has belonged to the Transportation Research Board's Transportation Accessibility Committee, which is part of the National Research Council, a private, nonprofit institution jointly administered by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine of the United States of America, having been the only member from Latin America. Lilian has collaborated with government agencies in the development of accessibility regulations and has participated at national and international conferences. She is co-author of a methodology to evaluate architectural and urban accessibility and has published the book "Architectural Accessibility, its application to the design of spaces". Since 1997, she has collaborated full-time at Monterrey Tech, Mexico City Campus, being the founding Director of the Architecture program (1997-2005); and up to now, professor of the Architecture Department. She is part of the "Consultative Committee on Diversity and Inclusion: People with Disabilities", and received from the National Design Award, Diseña México-UNESCO the Award for Academic Career in Design Teaching 2021, for teaching the topics of inclusion and universal design.
