Hernández-Sotillo, Omar Danilo

Overview

He has been a full-time professor in the Department of Media and Digital Culture of Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, since August 2001. Among the courses he teaches are: Qualitative research methods; Media, Culture and Society; International Communication; Communication and Globalization; The World Through Cinema. At the postgraduate level, he has taught courses such as Theories of the Organization in a Globalized Context, International Communication Seminar, and The Public Sphere in the Information Age, in addition to advising thesis projects of master's and doctoral students. He has also taught at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of California at San Diego, teaching courses on Political and Social Theories, Latin and Media, Global Television, and Television Marketing, among others. His research interests currently revolve around the processes of cultural globalization, and on the specific issues of the soap opera industry in Latin America. He has conducted research on various topics ranging from the influence of the United States in the Mexican political system to health coverage in the US Hispanic media. He has published works on censorship and political culture in Latin America, the transnationalization of soap operas, and the structure of the Mexican television industry, among others. He has also participated as a speaker and panelist in more than 30 national and international conferences and seminars.
