Herrera-Domínguez, Rogelio Balam

Overview

Balam Herrera was born in Mexico City on November 10, 1984. With a scholarship from FONCA-CONACYT and the University of York he studied an MA in Film and Television Production in England. He also holds a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He directed the documentary series GAY/DF with a Young Creators grant from CONACULTA-FONCA (2013-2014) and has worked on fiction and non-fiction films, both short and feature length, specialising in producing, directing and editing. His experience includes production, project planning, workflows, film and video technology, visual effects and 2D animation. He has directed eight short fiction films in Mexico and abroad, two feature documentaries and has worked in various production companies. He began teaching film workshops in 2005 and has been a university professor since 2011. His awards include: being part of the American Film Market Pitch Competition selection to present a 2 minute pitch to producers and market assistants at the Pitch Conference based on his feature film in development Happy Meals (Los Angeles 2016), the Young Creators Scholarship from CONACULTA-FONCA (2013), the inclusion of his short film El Casco in Mo?rbido Film Fest's Official Selection (2013), the University of York Scholarship for Overseas Students (2011), the Study Abroad Scholarship for Mexican Students from FONCA- CONACYT (2011) and the Prize for Best Sound Design at the Pantalla de Cristal Festival (2006), among others. He is currently in post-production of his feature film Codices of Fire, a documentary about the biology, geology and legends in the Mexican Neovolcanic Belt.
