Overview
Alfredo graduated with honors in Electronic Technologies Engineering with a concentration in telecommunications from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de México, in 2010, earning the highest GPA in his class. In 2015, he completed a master s degree in Electrical Engineering (signal processing) at UNAM, including a research stay at Université Bordeaux I, France. He later earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2021, specializing in speech processing at the Audio Analysis Lab, with an additional research stay at Lund University, Sweden.
Following his Ph.D., Alfredo worked for two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sheffield, UK, focusing on AI and deep learning for speech synthesis. His career also spans the private sector and government roles in telecommunications regulation, alongside significant prior teaching experience.
Alfredo has presented his research at prestigious conferences such as ICASSP and Interspeech, and serves as a reviewer for ICASSP, Interspeech, IEEE Access, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, and the EURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech and Music Processing. His research interests include voice analysis, signal modeling, robust parameter estimation, and non-autoregressive models for text-to-speech synthesis. Additionally, he organized the first Sheffield Speech Synthesis Workshop.
