Alfonso Molina. Mexican composer of opera, orchestral music, chamber music, film music and other audiovisual arts, from Sonora, Mexico.¿ ¿ Molina makes use of expressive elements and techniques from the 20th and 21st Century, as well as Mexican Folk influences driven from the past, to create music. His music can be eclectic, energetic and diverse. Molina also makes use of electronic sounds, digital musical elements and other crossover genres to enrich a musical concept. He is also interested in incorporating political and social issues in his compositions in order to raise awareness and advocating for bringing people together. His first opera, entitled Illegal Alien (2014), was described by the Boston Metro Opera (BMO), as an opera that "fosters awareness through both text and music", the opera deals with immigration issues like xenophobia and the right to private property and is part of Boston´s outreach ongoing educational programs. In 2016, it was performed in Alamos, Mexico, as part of the Ortiz Tirado (FAOT) Music Festival. ¿ While living in New York, Molina established numerous collaborative works with choreographers, theater companies and filmmakers. He made his professional studies with Rudolph Palmer and David Tcimpidis at The Mannes Conservatory, The New School for Music and he obtained his Master of Music, studying with Richard Danielpour and Marjorie Marryman at the Manhattan School of Music. Additional studies include studies with Samuel Zyman, Ladislav Kubik and Luis Vergès and holds a Doctorate from the University of Arizona studying with Daniel Asia. ¿ His works have been performed in New York, California, Spain, Brazil, Czech Republic, Slovaquia, Arizona, among other places by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra (BSO), The MSM Philarmonia Orchestra, The Jazz Philharmonic, The Mivos Quartet, AtonalHits, Associated Musicians from Create New York (AMF Local 802) /RMA, The Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra (OCBA), The Sonora Symphonic Orchestra (OFS), the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra chamber players and various soloists. In Mexico, his works have been performed at the Bellas Artes Palace, The Tamayo Museum among other places. ¿ Molina has been recipient of numerous awards, including ASCAP,, The Carolina Foundation, the National Fund for Culture and Arts of Mexico (FONCA-CONACYT) among others. His works include soundtracks such as"De Nadie-Border Crossing (2006) Audience Award Winner at Sundance, Proof of Birth (2007) and others. ¿ Molina recently did a residency in Barcelona Spain, due to a scholarship from the Carolina Foundation, at the Cataluña's Superior School of Music (ESMUC), where he specialized in Musical Visual Arts.
