Solís-Escalera, Mariana

Overview

Industrial designer, product designer, craft designer, critical designer... designer in search of establishing discussion, exchanging knowledge, and letting conversation emerge into ideas that transcend and evolve. Her work has mostly focused on craft and design, how these two practices merge and create dialogues between object, humans and context. She believes that design can go beyond, being capable of crafting stories and revealing history. It can also cohere humans and non-humans inside ecologies. As well, design is exposed to constant change, having the ability to adapt and cross disciplines. Overall, design can be a compilation of concepts, ideas, perceptions, objects, places transforming the living world. While doing her master, Mariana discovered and rediscovered new meanings in design, like how objects can speak truths. Through them we can learn and reconnect with materiality, environment, society, culture and identity. Therefore, she focuses and connects her work with the idea of preserving past techniques and crafts, which carry this ethereal knowledge.
