Salinas-Mejía, Oscar Roberto

Overview

A native of Delicias, Chihuahua, he began his Engineering Undergraduate Studies at ITESM Chihuahua Campus. Years later, he earned a Bachelor´s Degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at ITESM Monterrey Campus, where he received the Excellence Medal (Highest Honors) for his academic performance. His first job as a Graduate, was with a US Automotive Company as Representative for Mexico. He settled in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, to fulfill his role and have a convenient hub for travelling across Mexico and the United States. After a year and a half of work, he went back to school to pursue Graduate Studies. To such end, he got the support of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship and the Mexican Science and Technology Council. In the beginning, he focused on the study of Renewable Energy at the University of Massachusetts. He remained in the Mechanical Engineering field as he continued his education at Northwestern University (Illinois); there he was granted a Master of Science degree. Still having much scientific curiosity to satisfy, he continued his Graduate Studies in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta). It was there that he was granted a PhD degree and had the chance to participate in winning Projects. These were sponsored by Government Agencies, Private Companies, and Non-Profit Organizations like NASA, Sikorsky, and the American Helicopter Society respectively. Upon finishing his education, he returned to Mexico to join ITESM Chihuahua Campus as a Research Professor. He devoted his life uninterruptedly to such institution for over thirteen years before moving to the California border; he relocated to such place to take on a Design Engineer post at United Technologies Corporation / Aerospace Systems. He remained with this company for over two years and one of his nine technological proposals won the Corporate Global Innovation Award. Then he answered the call of his motherland and moved back to Chihuahua to join a French Aerospace Company. For over two years, he filled various positions in different divisions, being his last appointment that of Research Engineer. At the end of this period of time, he worked full time on the commercial exploitation of his patents in the field of Solar Power. Only two years had passed, when he heard the call of science again and decided to apply for a Full Time Engineering Professor opening at Tecnológico de Monterrey Chihuahua Campus where he works today. Throughout his career, he has always sought to employ science to benefit society; it is for this reason that he holds multiple patents and patent application certificates in the United States and Mexico. Some of the fields in which he has made such contributions are: Automotive Safety, Renewable Energy, Military Technology, and Food Processing. As for his interest in personal growth beyond academics, he has pursued the broadening of his horizon through the study of foreign languages. Thus, his formal training in German, French, and English, allows him to confidently take on challenges around the world.
