Sandoval-Osio, Gerardo

Overview

Gerardo Sandoval Osio (1991) is a designer, from Monterrey, Mexico, focused on material, cultural and territorial research through design. He studied industrial design at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL, 2008-2013), has studies in traditional Japanese crafts and modern design at the Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT, Kyoto, Jp), part of the CONACYT-JICA program. (2016) and is a graduate of the MA Geo-Design master's program at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands (DAE, 2022). He participated in the 2018 Young Creators Program of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) and served as a teacher at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL, 2017-2020) and at the Superior Center for Design Studies of Monterrey ( CEDIM, 2018-2020), both design universities in Monterrey, Mexico. Currently he works as a affiliate professor at Instituto Técnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM 2022-today). Gerardo develops design projects as an independent professional. He is the co-founder of Tierra de Saberes, a project that investigates, documents and disseminates traditional knowledge rooted in the northeastern territory of Mexico together with Cristóbal López Carrera, Nydia Prieto and Jorge Balleza. His designs and projects have been shown in the Galería Mexicana de Diseño (Milano in Messico, CDMX, Mx), in MAAT (Aquaria, Lisboa, Pt) and in exhibitions such as the Open Mexican Design (CDMX, Mx), Design Week México (CDMX, Mx), Campamento Feria (Gdl, Mx), Tokyo Design Week (Jp), Milan Design Week (It) and Dutch Design Week (NL).
