Overview
Manuel Burelo is a Chemical Engineer at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco UJAT (Specialization in Materials Science), with a Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering with honors from the Materials Research Institute at the National Autonomous University of Mexico IIM-UNAM (Specialization in Polymeric Materials), and with a PhD in Chemical Sciences with honors from the Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico FQ-UNAM (Specialization in Polymer and Materials Chemistry) and nominated for the Alfonso Caso medal for his PhD studies at UNAM. He completed a postdoctoral stay at the IAMSM Tecnológico de Monterrey for 3 years (2022-2025), focused on materials chemistry, polymeric materials, and degradation processes for plastics and elastomers.
He received the Santander Universidades scholarship for Young Professors and Researchers 2018, the Agilent Technologies 2019 scholarship for the development of Research Techniques, and the Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Polymer Science and Engineering by the Polymeric Society of Mexico (SPM) 2020. He has directed research, four undergraduate theses and one master's theses. He has published more than 20 articles in national and international journals, has 415 citations (h-index = 10), and belongs to the National System of Researchers of CONAHCYT (SNII 1, 2025-2029).
His research interests include the synthesis and characterization of bio-based polymers, the degradation and recycling of elastomers and plastics, and sustainable chemistry in polymers and materials.
He is currently a Postdoc Researcher at IAMSM and a Professor at the EIC Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro Campus.
