Murúa-Losada, Gonzalo Pablo

Overview

Gonzalo Murúa Losada studied at the University of Cinema in Buenos Aires, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Cinematography with a focus on Editing. Later, he pursued his Master's degree in Documentary Filmmaking at the same institution. Additionally, he has taken postgraduate courses related to immersive narratives, virtual reality, and video games. In the realm of cinema, Gonzalo works as an editor, director, and creator of documentaries. He paved his way as an independent producer through his production company, Obsidiana Films, which won the "Capital Semilla" competition by the Ministry of Industry in Argentina, aimed at acquiring essential equipment. In that same year, he began production on his debut feature-length documentary titled "Los fantasmas de Losada," subsidized through the digital channel of INCAA with support from FUC. This film premiered in 2016 at Cine Gaumont. In 2014, he participated in the "Un barrio de película" competition (INCAA) and received funding to create a short film about the Palermo neighborhood, titled "Las lágrimas de Thays." Similarly, in 2016, he presented his documentary short film "Te quiero obsceno," which garnered international awards and recognitions at various festivals in Brazil, England, and Argentina. In 2023, after years of work, he completed production on his feature-length documentary "Las voces de Pablo," which is on the verge of being premiered at festivals and commercial theaters. In the post-production field, Gonzalo has worked as an editor in numerous production companies such as Subterránea Films, Wanka Films, Palermo Films, Flehner, among others. He also served as a post-production coordinator at the university channel UNITV belonging to the National University of General Sarmiento. As a researcher, he was part of the CONICET research group, Argentina's leading research organization, in the project "El cine que nos empodera: mapeos, experiencias y ensayos," led by Dr. Andrea Molfetta. This project focuses on community cinema in the Province of Buenos Aires. Furthermore, he has authored two books on cinema and new media: "El pixel hace la fuerza: narrativa, cine y videojuegos en la era de las hipermediaciones" and "El webdoc: el documental político y el usuario emancipado." He has also published numerous articles on the subject, such as "Por un cuarto cine: el webdoc en la era de las narraciones digitales" or "Breaking Samus Aran's Armor: Women in the Contemporary Video Game Industry." In his role as an educator, Gonzalo has taught in Argentina at the University of Buenos Aires, the University of Palermo, and the University of Cinema in Buenos Aires. There, he has taught courses related to film direction, film history, and research, among others. In 2020, he taught scriptwriting and video game scriptwriting as a guest lecturer at TAI (University School of Arts) in Madrid, Spain. Currently, he is a full-time professor in the Department of Media and Digital Culture at Campus Sonora Norte.
