Delgado-Castañeda, Eduardo Guillermo
Overview
Guillermo Delgado is an architect born in Mexico. He is currently lecturer at the School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD) at the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Tecnológico de Monterrey). He was recently a consultant at the Housing Policy Coordination at the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU). He was previously senior lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST); where he directed the Institute for Land, Livelihoods and Housing. He lived in Namibia for thirteen years, where he was part of the leadership of the team that revised the national housing programs and policy, and where he has served on different task teams, panels and committees of national projects on housing and urban land. He has taught courses on research methods, urbanization in Africa and housing, as well as supervised master and PhD theses. He was previously associate researcher at the Labour Resource and Research Institute, where he worked on issues of living conditions and informal economies. Before that, he was researcher at Cohabitation Strategies, a cooperative for socio-spatial development, where he collaborated in urban development projects in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Guelph (Canada), New York (U.S.A.), and Bordeaux (France). He holds an architecture degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City; a master's degree in architecture from the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam (now The Berlage, at TU Delft), the Netherlands; and a doctoral degree in architecture and planning from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He has worked in several projects focused on urban development, land rights, governance, housing, social protection, informal settlements, and co-productive spatial practices. His work has been published in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, magazines, and popular outlets. He is part of international associations and networks with peers in various disciplines, including environment and climate change, architecture, and geography. He has also consulted for international cooperation agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international financial institutions. He is currently the president of the RedMX Sub-Saharan Africa Chapter; a network of Mexican professionals based abroad with the objective of enhancing synergies between each other and with counterparts in Mexico. He currently lives in Mexico City, where he lives with his husband and three children.
