Méndez-Galindo, Carlos

Dr. Carlos Mendez, born in Mexico in 1981, received his PhD and MEng degrees in Earthquake and Structural Engineering from Hokkaido University, in Sapporo, Japan. He is currently Chairman & CEO at SeismicPS | Seismic Protection Solutions, LLC, and since 2017, elected as global Vice-president of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), the youngest ever in the 94-year history of the Association. He works as technical consultant on earthquake damage mitigation strategies for infrastructure projects worldwide. At mageba Group, he has worked as Technical Advisor in Japan, Project Manager for Seismic Devices in Switzerland, Manager for Seismic Devices in USA, and CEO & Regional President LATAM. He has twice been presented with the Best Young Researcher Award by the Japanese Society of Steel Construction, in 2006 and 2007. He was awarded in 2011 with the Youth Merit Award by the Michoacán State in Mexico. He is an active member of several international associations, including IABSE, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Japanese Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and the Mexican Society of Earthquake Engineering (SMIS). At IABSE he has served as member of the working group "Earthquake Resistant Structures" from 2009 to 2017, the E-Learning Board, the Young Engineers Board, as well as Founding Chairman of the Mexican National Group of IABSE in 2011. He has also been member of several Scientific Committees for IABSE Conferences and Symposia around the world. He has also served as member of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Society of Earthquake Engineering (2018-2019). He is currently member of several Technical Committees, including the Resilience Committee of the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico (CICM), and the Committees developing the Mexican Codes for Seismic Isolation and Energy Dissipation. He has been invited as a Keynote Speaker in over 30 conferences and events around the world. Dr. Mendez has published over 80 scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, peer-reviewed international conferences, and other technical meetings. He is the author of 7 book chapters on structural and earthquake engineering.
