Trujillo-Villarreal, Luis Ángel

Overview

Neuroscientist with a 9-year trajectory, whose research focuses on the complex interaction between molecular mechanisms and behavior. He holds a Ph.D. in Sciences, specializing in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), where he graduated with the Magna Cum Laude distinction. His line of research focuses on investigating the origins of pathological behavior through murine models, with a particular emphasis on examining prenatal factors that contribute to the susceptibility to psychiatric and developmental disorders. His doctoral work focused on the study of the transgenerational inheritance of brain structure and function implicated in anxiety- and depression-like behaviors. His trajectory includes serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Neuroscience at the Neurobiology Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where his line of research focused on the impact of prenatal stress on substance use disorders. He currently develops his research at the Institute for Obesity Research (IOR), where he focuses on unraveling the origins of pathological behavior and susceptibility to psychiatric-cardiac disorders. His current work is particularly relevant to the study of vulnerability to stress and eating habits. A key project on his research agenda addresses the impact of combining Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress (CUMS) and exposure to high fructose consumption (FRD) in murine models, seeking to understand how chronic stress modulates neural pathways and metabolic health. His scientific work is reflected in multiple publications in prestigious international journals, his recognition within the National System of Researchers (SNI), and his mastery of advanced techniques such as in vivo animal magnetic resonance imaging, behavioral assessments, and molecular analyses. Dr. Trujillo Villarreal is committed to generating crucial knowledge to understand and mitigate neurobiological and metabolic developmental vulnerabilities.
