Serrano-del Pozo, Gonzalo Andrés

Overview

Dr. Gonzalo Serrano is a distinguished academic and researcher specializing in the intersection of History, Communications, and Education. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in History from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, complemented by professional degrees in Journalism, Humanities, and Education from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI). Before joining Tecnológico de Monterrey, Dr. Gonzalo spent two decades in Chilean higher education, most recently as an Associate Professor at UAI. His leadership experience includes serving as Director of Graduate Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies. His research career has been consistently funded by Chile s National Research and Development Agency (ANID-Fondecyt). A prolific author, he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and books that bridge the gap between academic rigor and public history, including Liberators or Oppressors? The Chilean Army in Peru (2025) and Who Killed Diego Portales? (2022). His expertise has also had a significant diplomatic impact, serving as a historical consultant for the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs during international proceedings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. In the media, he is a frequent columnist for El Mercurio de Valparaíso, covering both socio-historical topics and sports journalism the latter under the pen name "Winston." An avid sports enthusiast, Gonzalo enjoys playing tennis and padel and is a devoted supporter of Santiago Wanderers, Chile s oldest football club. He values family time with his wife, two children, and their two dogs.
