Juárez-Negrete, Antonio Luis
Overview
Antonio Luis Juárez Negrete, M. Arch. is an architect with a Master s degree in Restoration of Historic Sites and Monuments and a full-time faculty member at the School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD), Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro Campus, where he has more than 22 years of teaching experience. His work lies at the intersection of architectural representation, design processes, and educational innovation, integrating traditional graphic representation techniques with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR), the Metaverse, and spatial capture and representation technologies.
His teaching practice and research explore methodologies for incorporating emerging technologies throughout different stages of the architectural design process from ideation and conceptualization through sketching and graphic representation, to the generation and exploration of design alternatives using generative AI, and subsequently to the creation of three-dimensional models and their visualization, experimentation, and validation through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). This approach seeks to strengthen students spatial thinking, creativity, technological experimentation, and design competencies, positioning technology as a means to expand rather than replace the creative process.
He has participated in NOVUS educational innovation projects in 2022, 2023, and 2025, addressing generative AI, Mixed Reality, the Metaverse, spatial representation, and global education. These initiatives include projects involving the design and visualization of sensory spaces through AI and VR, ExplorAR, and methodologies that integrate AI and XR into learning and design processes. Part of this work has been developed through Global Classroom initiatives and international collaborations with universities in Colombia, Chile, and Spain.
He was a pioneer in implementing a fully immersive academic course delivered entirely within the Tecnológico de Monterrey Virtual Campus Metaverse. This experience subsequently became the subject of academic documentation, research, and dissemination. Through these initiatives, he has explored educational models that enable students from different countries to collaborate, design, and experiment together within virtual and immersive environments.
As part of the Twinverse project, he participates in the development of digital twins of buildings and physical environments using drone photogrammetry, Matterport spatial capture, and LiDAR scanning. This line of work connects digital documentation of the built environment with its three-dimensional reconstruction, visualization, and exploration, expanding its applications in architectural education, spatial analysis, and immersive experiences.
Several projects in which he has participated were selected for inclusion in Tecnológico de Monterrey s institutional educational innovation reports for 2024 and 2025. These include Sketch I.A.A.R.: Integrating Sensory Habitat Design with Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence and AI Digital Twins for the Presentation of the Formal Representation of Space Module, included in 2024. In 2025, Extended Reality and Artificial Intelligence for Spatial Representation documented a Global Classroom experience developed in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and Universidad El Bosque, involving 54 students.
The outcomes of his educational innovation initiatives have led to international conference presentations and publications focused on AI, XR, the Metaverse, and design education. He has presented his work at conferences including IVEC, ICERI, INTED, EDULEARN, EDINNOVATE, and IFE Conference, among others, in countries such as Spain, Japan, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico. His publications include Designing Immersive Spaces Using Mixed Realities, Masterclass in the Metaverse: A Collaboration Between Mexico and Chile, Educational Revolution in the Metaverse: Tec Virtual Campus's First
