abstract

  • Research-Based Learning (RBL) is an educational technique that integrates research with teaching, allowing students to participate in research processes to build knowledge actively. This methodology develops skills such as reading, critical thinking, analysis, and argumentation. It has been combined with tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT, to improve the research process and skill development of biotechnology students. The study evaluated the use of ChatGPT compared to traditional methods of searching and analyzing scientific information on nutraceuticals and medications. And the perception of the students when using this tool in the development of their projects. The results showed that students developed more detailed concepts by integrating information obtained from ChatGPT with scientific articles. Since ChatGPT helped them focus the search and improve the structure and quality of the works presented. The findings suggest that ChatGPT can be a valuable tool in the RBL methodology, facilitating the development of critical thinking by contrasting and evaluating information from various sources. The students showed a positive perception towards this tool, highlighting its usefulness as an initial guide and to improve the writing and organization of ideas. The conclusion is that the combination of RBL and ChatGPT can significantly improve learning in advanced educational contexts such as biotechnology. © 2025 IEEE.
