abstract

  • The accelerating transition of the automotive industry towards electrification, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing demands a profound transformation in engineering education. To address this need, Tecnologico de Monterrey developed the Automotive Engineering Concentration, a competencybased specialization that integrates challenge-based learning and direct industry collaboration. The program guides students through the complete product development cycle, from understanding customer needs to design, simulation, manufacturing, and validation of electric and hybrid vehicle systems. This paper describes the methodology used to define the program's competencies, design yearly challenges that progressively build these competencies, and integrate learning experiences aligned with industry requirements. Results demonstrate significant improvements in student engagement, skill acquisition, and readiness for professional practice in sustainable mobility. This model provides a replicable approach to modernizing engineering curricula to meet the demands of Industry 4.0 and the transition to low-emission transportation.
