Mechanical engineer from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia (1988). Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de los Andes (1990) and the Washington University, St. Louis, USA (1994). Doctor in Science from Washington University (1997). Master's Degree in Business Administration from Tecnológico de Monterrey (2006).
Professor at Universidad de los Andes until 2002. Currently full-time professor of Tecnológico de Monterrey. Dr. Huertas belongs to the Mexican System of researchers CONACYT, level 2, in Mexico and senior researcher in Colombia of COLCIENCIAS. Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He led the Energy Research Group (GICOM) of the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia until 2002. In 2004 he founded, together with 3 professors, the Research Center in Automotive Mechatronics (CIMA) of Tecnológico de Monterrey and led it until 2015. He is currently a researcher in the Energy and Climate Change Research Group of Tecnológico de Monterrey. He has published 3 books, 4 book chapters and more than 65 articles indexed in journals indexed in Scopus related to energy and air pollution. He has a patent and a copyright granted. He has completed more than 90 research projects funded by companies and government entities.
