Optimization for Humanitarian Logistics, a sustainable model Academic Article in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • Humanitarian Logistics is a new field that allows social organizations such as the Red Cross to explore innovation on the grounds for new types of problem-solving strategies. This work presents a model for humanitarian aid distribution in order to minimize delays, considering non-satisfied demand and reaching for balanced distribution aftermath. The model proposed solves the involved routing and distribution problems thorough a hybrid optimization, known in the artificial intelligence field as "meta-heuristic". The proposed model considers the capacity of humanitarian aid storage at Distribution Points to satisfy the next period's demand, all vehicles are able to travel through several routes in each period, it is possible to visit the same Distribution Point within a single period, all of this in a sustainable development environment.
