A Jeffcott rotor model that includes a nonlinear breathing mechanism is considered and to be validated by experimental data. Furthermore, a nonlinear stability analysis is performed via Lyapunov largest exponent to correlate the overshoot value and the observed rotor behavior. It is concluded that numerical results obtained from the enhanced Jeffcott rotor model that includes a nonlinear restoring force tend to describe well experimental data, and the system overshooting is sensitive to rotor cracks.
