All rights reserved.The parameter, whose estimation and validation is central in the statistical inference, feigns simplicity in the school speech, but it hides a non-attended complexity. This investigation seeks to provide evidence of this problem from the didactic perspec-tive of the textbooks regarding the articulation of the different meanings given to the parameter along the contents of an introductory college course in probability and statistics. The results show some inconsistencies and even the omission of a clear conceptualization in the language of textbooks, as well as that its simplicity is only apparent.
