abstract
- This research focuses on the key characteristics of online audiovisual contents that higher education students watch with learning purposes. During COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico, higher education was delivered through online classes and virtuality, which promoted online learning tools. We analyzed data from 130 participants Mexican Universities to identify: A) The reasons to watch online videos/tutorials instead of face-to-face lessons and B) The key characteristics of online videos that students watch with learning purposes. Most of the participants considered that online content benefits their academic performance; it complements face-to-face or in-person learning by providing quick solutions to specific inquiries. They were aware of the relevance of using reliable sources of information. Professors' role remains fundamental in the learning process since most of the participants prefer face-to-face learning over learning online or from online-only content. Professors should consider, as a didactic tool, creating their own specific, concise and curated audiovisual online content. © 2022 IEEE.
