- The COVID-19 pandemic around the globe has brought many changes in the education system. Professors adapted their courses in record time and were creative at motivating students. This paper presents how to implement Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) for Industrial and Systems Engineering and how to adapt it to a hybrid model. The main objective of the Challenge is to apply Lean Thinking and its tools to improve a key performance indicator (KPI). One of the essential aspects is the company or Training Partner (TP) that presents real-world problems for the students. The TP benefits from CBL by selecting outstanding engineers for future hiring, updating on problem-solving tools, and innovative ideas to implement Lean Thinking. This paper presents the main characteristics the challenge should have to successfully teach Lean Thinking. © IISE and Expo 2023.All rights reserved.
