- The design of power electronics for electric vehicle applications must result in a high power density to improve their viability. It must also help preserve the lifespan of the energy systems involved, and provide a well-regulated voltage with a high efficiency. To improve the size characteristics and minimize input current and output voltage ripples, this paper proposes a conversion system for the powertrain DC bus in a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). It uses an interleaved Improved SuperBoost (ISB) converter, which achieves the same ripple magnitudes as the traditional and fourth-order boost using smaller inductors and capacitors. Experimental results are provided to confirm the operation of the ISB, and simulations are performed for a 1 kW fuel cell system connected to the interleaved ISB to power a 200 V DC bus. © 2024 IEEE.
