  • This research paper explores the potential of incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into the realm of educational gamification, with a focus on enhancing the learning experience for students in higher education. By examining the current landscape of educational gamification and the advancements in AI applications, this paper aims to identify the interactions and opportunities that can be leveraged to create more engaging, personalized, and effective learning environments. The paper investigates into the key areas where AI can benefit the implementation of educational gamification, such as adaptive content delivery, intelligent tutoring systems, the content generation, automated assessment, and automated management. These AI-powered instruments have the potential to transform the way students learn, by providing personalized feedback, adaptive pacing, and targeted learning experiences. In addition, the work reviews the main existing AI-based applications to implement each of the above-mentioned areas, discusses some implementations of AI supporting educational gamification that have been documented in the current literature, and mention the challenges and considerations associated with the integration of AI into gamified educational settings, including issues of data privacy, ethical concerns, and the evolving role of instructors. As higher education institutions seek to enhance the learning experience for their students, the integration of AI-powered gamification presents a promising avenue for innovation and improved outcomes. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
