Degeneration in H. P. Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgson Book in Scopus uri icon

abstract

  • The purpose of this chapter is to study the presence of the fears of degeneration from the fin-de-siècle, the last two decades of the nineteenth century, in the works of Hodgson and Lovecraft. They extend such apprehensions into the twentieth century and magnify them by presenting the gothic motif of hybrid monsters whose presence proves in their works that other species could be better adapted than humans to survive under harsh conditions of life. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s) 2020
