abstract
- This chapter examines the design, implementation, and evaluation of a graduate-level online course focused on learning assessment based on a competency-based curriculum. It posits that competencies are best developed in dynamic, interactive environments that enhance teaching practices across various educational contexts, from preschool to higher education. The chapter details two key instructional strategies: (1) using a metaverse with real and fictional campus scenarios to foster immersion and interaction and (2) employing free-access applications to improve evaluation systems in real contexts. The integration of this virtual world aimed to engage adult learners from diverse locations through interactive games linked to the course content. Key findings underscore the benefits of the metaverse for adult learners, emphasizing the effectiveness of structured, exemplified activities. The authors also address how free-use applications can enhance learning assessment planning beyond simple question bank generation. © 2025 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
